(UK) started trading in April 1986 as a timber importer, initially to supply
the U.K. pallet and fencing manufacturing industries with timber from Portugal,
Chile, Brazil and Sweden.
During a visit to the Baltic States in the January of 1993 to establish
new contacts with the emerging timber industry post the Soviet era, strong
links were established mainly in the Republic of Latvia. This eventually
led to investments being made by the company in 1995. A sawmill and a forestry
company are now directly owned by the group, the sawmill plant currently
processes in excess of 120,000 cubic meters of Whitewood and Redwood logs
annually, at it’s production plants in the towns of Tukums and Stende.
Producing a complete range of sawn timber products for the building industry,
together with agricultural and garden fencing products including, C16/C24
Kiln Dried Carcassing, Planed and regularised Timbers, as well as Treated
timbers.
A trading operation together with a timber treatment facilities and kilns
are located at the company’s port and storage facilities in Riga and
is also responsible for organising additional timber supplies from all over
Eastern Europe. As well as exports to the U.K. and Ireland the company also
has regular sales to the USA, Japan Germany and Spain as well as a thriving
local market in Latvia.
The opening of the first new ‘Independent Builders Merchant’
in Barry in April 2006 had long been the intention of the companies Managing
Director Ian Thomson originally from Penarth Ian and his family have lived
in Barry for the last 25 years.
